It is at this intersection of compassionate relationship and awareness that we find the space to learn, grow, and change.

Lisa Werness, a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner and CranioSacral therapist, has more than 20 years experience of working with a wide range of clients. The modalities she uses work synergistically to re-educate the nervous system. This allows the body to release habitual holding patterns which are often an underlying cause of chronic pain. The spacious realignment provides us with a broader spectrum of choices.

Becoming an embodied human being calls for deepening our relationship to Self and Other.  Seeking to embody a subtle and respectful approach, Lisa supports her clients to become fully present and engaged in their own healing process.  Her inspiration comes from her own experience:

"My journey toward Embodiment has been long and slow. We all enter this world with some gifts more obvious than others. Being in the Body was not my gift; it was my lesson to learn and keep learning. I say that with gratitude. Moving one step at a time toward presencing an embodied life has been and continues to be an adventure. Together we are unfolding a new understanding of who we are on this planet."

Her broad spectrum of training includes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, UNC-CH, 1987
  • Master’s Degree in English Literature, UNC-CH, 1991
  • Nationally Certified Massage Therapist and Bodyworker, 1994
  • Upledger Institute Certified CranioSacral Therapist, 1996
  • Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner, 1999
  • Student of Eutony, Body-Mind Centering, Continuum, 1999-2013
  • Graduate of the Embodied Life™ Mentorship Program, 2014

Lisa spent her first five years in this field working with Physical Therapists and Holistic Physicians treating clients with chronic pain.  From there she moved into private practice which has thrived over the past fifteen years.  She has taught embodiment modalities in movement studios, massage therapy schools and at Duke University.

Clients, teachers and colleagues have taught, supported and inspired Lisa over the years. Her beloved husband Maurice and son Eli provide her with the deepest practice of living a life of embodied loving kindness.

Embodied Life™

CranioSacral Therapy

In the Embodied Life™ work, we begin with a very simple idea: in order to be intimate with our selves we have to start from a place of kindness. Through meditation, movement, and somatic explorations we begin to develop a deeper and kinder connection to self.

CranioSacral Therapy uses subtle, listening touch to facilitate correction of restrictions in the myo-fascial sheaths surrounding the central nervous system. These releases in turn facilitate the self-correcting capacity of all other body systems.
